Trauma Management
&
Vehicle Extrication Course

Conducted at a modern Training Complex at Colac, the two day Trauma Management & Vehicle Extrication Course is directed at organisations who work in isolated areas where Medical and Rescue Services are not readily available.

Expanding on from the Level Two First Aid Certificate, participants are taught a basic level of understanding in the hands on approach to managing all aspects of a motor vehicle accident including approach, assessing and treating trauma patients, extraction, and vehicle cutting.

COURSE OUTLINE

The course is broken into 3 phases:

Phase One:

This theoretical introductory component addresses the issues of:

- Mechanisms Of Trauma
- Vehicle Approach & Safety
- Vehicle Stabilisation
- Patient Assessment

Phase Two:

Phase two is conducted in an undercover training facility containing 13 vehicles set-up in a range of common and not so common situations found at the scene of a vehicle accident.

This phase combines a small theoretical component covering a range of trauma topics, with a series of trauma scenarios combining aspects of scene management including approach, hazards, vehicle stabilisation, patient assessment / treatment and extraction.

Phase Three:

Phase three covers aspects of vehicle cutting using basic hand tools including a rope, hooligan tool, hacksaw and highlift jack.   Using these tools, students are taught glass, steering wheel, door and roof removal, dash rolls, and other space making techniques to assist in the access and removal of patients.
